Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor microtunneling, pipe jacking, shaft construction, piling and related underground civil works.
- Verify that site activities are performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and project requirements.
- Inspect excavation support, shaft formation, base preparation, structural elements, waterproofing and access arrangements.
- Monitor tunneling operations, including launch and reception procedures, machine progress, spoil removal and ground response.
- Check pipe line, level, gradient, horizontal alignment and vertical alignment against approved survey controls.
- Inspect pipe installation, joint preparation, seals, lubrication arrangements, intermediate jacking stations and connection works.
- Monitor jacking forces, slurry pressure, advance rates, lubrication usage and other recorded tunneling parameters.
- Verify grouting, annular void treatment, backfilling, compaction, surface reinstatement and restoration activities.
- Inspect piling locations, installation records, depth, alignment and bearing requirements where applicable.
- Witness inspections, material testing, field tests and quality control activities identified in approved inspection and test plans.
- Review inspection requests and verify that work areas are ready before inspection or subsequent construction activities.
- Record defects, incomplete works and non‑conforming activities with clear supporting observations.
- Follow up corrective and preventive actions until satisfactory closure is achieved.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, surveyors, laboratory personnel and utility representatives during inspections.
- Maintain continuous surveillance of critical operations and immediately report unsafe or technically unacceptable conditions.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports covering manpower, equipment, completed quantities, site conditions and quality observations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, photographs, test results, approvals, rejected works and corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with project quality plans, environmental controls and health and safety procedures.
- Support the Resident Engineer in reviewing progress and resolving technical issues affecting microtunneling activities.
- Verify completed works before backfilling, concealment, connection or handover.
- Assist with final inspections, snagging, as‑built verification and project closeout documentation.
Ideal Profile
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, construction technology or a related technical discipline.
- A high school qualification combined with substantial relevant construction inspection experience may also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the construction and supervision of microtunneling, pipe jacking or trenchless technology projects.
- Practical understanding of shaft construction, excavation support, pipeline installation, grouting, backfilling and reinstatement.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, profiles, specifications, method statements and inspection plans.
- Familiarity with survey controls, pipeline gradients, tunneling alignment and construction tolerances.
- Knowledge of quality inspection procedures, material testing, non‑conformance control and site documentation.
- Recent microtunneling or pipe jacking experience in Dubai is an advantage.
- Strong observational skills with the ability to identify defects and construction risks early.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to coordinate professionally with contractors, consultants, engineers and utility stakeholders.
- Willingness to work around excavation areas, shafts, tunneling equipment and active construction operations.
- Ability to maintain accurate records while managing several inspection activities during the same shift.
