Role Context
The Civil Inspector - Stormwater and Microtunneling will provide continuous site oversight for underground drainage and associated civil infrastructure works. The position supports the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer by verifying construction quality, monitoring contractor activities, documenting inspection findings, and ensuring that pipelines, shafts, chambers, manholes, culverts, outfalls, and related structures comply with project requirements and applicable authority standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections of stormwater drainage, sewerage, irrigation, and microtunneling construction activities.
- Monitor excavation, shoring, dewatering interfaces, backfilling, shaft construction, microtunneling drives, reinforcement, concrete placement, waterproofing, and finishing works.
- Verify pipe alignments, gradients, invert levels, chamber positions, manhole levels, and structural tolerances against approved design information.
- Check construction activities for compliance with approved shop drawings, method statements, specifications, inspection plans, and quality procedures.
- Ensure civil works meet applicable Dubai Municipality, RTA, and other relevant authority requirements.
- Inspect reinforcement, formwork, concrete, curing, protective coating, lining, and waterproofing before subsequent works proceed.
- Record site manpower, equipment deployment, material deliveries, work progress, and significant construction activities.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports covering observations, test results, progress, quality concerns, and safety-related findings.
- Support survey verification for pipeline routes, shafts, chambers, structural dimensions, and finished levels.
- Coordinate with contractors to resolve workmanship issues and verify completion of corrective actions.
- Assist the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer with site instructions and follow up contractor responses through closure.
- Review civil-related RFIs, method statements, inspection requests, and variance submissions as assigned.
- Monitor testing and commissioning activities for stormwater networks and associated infrastructure.
- Participate in inspections with client representatives, contractors, consultants, and authority personnel.
- Document inspection findings and ensure outstanding technical or quality issues are formally tracked.
- Maintain organized records of NCRs, inspections, laboratory results, material approvals, test reports, as-built information, and completed works.
- Verify that completed installations are ready for testing, commissioning, handover, and final acceptance.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in civil construction supervision or inspection.
- At least 5 years of relevant UAE experience is mandatory.
- Practical background in stormwater, sewerage, irrigation, underground utility, and miscellaneous civil works.
- Strong exposure to microtunneling, pipeline installation, shafts, chambers, manholes, and associated reinforced concrete structures.
- Good understanding of UAE construction regulations, authority requirements, and quality control practices.
- Ability to interpret contract documents, civil drawings, shop drawings, method statements, and project specifications.
- Experienced in conducting inspections and documenting non-compliant workmanship or materials.
- Familiarity with inspection and test plans, material testing procedures, NCR management, and corrective action follow-up.
- Competent in coordinating with engineers, surveyors, contractors, laboratory teams, and authority inspectors.
- Strong attention to construction tolerances, elevations, gradients, dimensions, and workmanship standards.
- Capable of maintaining accurate site records in a demanding infrastructure construction environment.
