Product & Process Implementation Technologist
Location: Midrand, South Africa
The Product & Process Implementation (PPI) Technologist is part of the development team in South Africa, closely collaborating with the PPI team in the UK. The role focuses on implementing new product designs for both products and processes, serving as a bridge between New Product Development and Manufacturing within the product commercialization and scale-up process.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead coordination and management of small trial blend requests, including arranging trials, sampling, micro testing, and dispatch.
- Conduct functionality testing locally and coordinate sending samples to PPI teams in Haddenham and PepsiCo USA.
- Understand and drive the capability requirements for 1.33, maintaining the functionality database, and preparing reports.
- Support seasoning implementation at the Midrand site, coordinating activities for scale-up and first-time orders, including testing, SAP & label checks, and trial closures.
- Ensure product implementation replicates lab design in manufacturing and that new products perform in both McCormick and customer/copacker processes.
- Manage nonconformance trials, batch size changes, and advise NPD on operational capabilities for first-time quality.
- Lead cross-functional FTO forums and execute activities related to compounding and application for functionality studies.
- Manage functionality samples for retention and support manufacturing QA, R&D, and process & equipment implementation as needed.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 13 years experience in Quality, Technical, NPD, Production, or Process roles.
- Diploma or BTech in Food Technology, Biotechnology, Food Science, or equivalent.
- Strong team player with cross-functional interaction skills.
- Self-starter with ownership, accountability, and ability to work under pressure.
- Critical thinking, attention to detail, and adaptability to change.
- Research-oriented with excellent relationship-building skills.
