Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a respected environmental NGO in Durban to recruit a Volunteer Coordinator & Program Assistant. The role focuses on mobilizing and supporting volunteers, serving as the main contact, and collaborating with the program team to enable conservation projects and events in KwaZulu-Natal.

You will recruit, train, schedule, and recognize volunteers, maintain records, and support administrative tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience in volunteer management, event coordination, or related roles.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with volunteer management software is a plus.
• Passion for environmental conservation and sustainability.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• Based in or willing to relocate to the Durban area.
• Bachelor's degree or relevant certification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, screen, onboard, and train volunteers for conservation projects.
• Develop and maintain a volunteer database tracking hours and engagement.
• Schedule and coordinate volunteer activities and events.
• Serve as the main contact for volunteers and resolve inquiries.
• Develop recognition programs to foster engagement and retention.
• Assist program managers with planning and execution of events and fieldwork.
• Prepare materials and logistical support for volunteer activities.
• Monitor volunteer performance and provide feedback.
• Contribute to the development of volunteer management policies.
• Assist with administrative tasks including correspondence and reporting.
