Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Telecom Systems Administrator for our Midrand, Gauteng hub to maintain PBX, VoIP, voicemail, and UC platforms, ensuring uptime and reliability for critical telecom services.

You will monitor performance, perform backups, implement security, and collaborate with IT and vendors. A 3–5 year telecom systems background and a relevant degree are expected to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in IT/CS.
• 3–5 years’ experience in systems administration for telecoms.
• Hands-on VoIP, SIP, and IP telephony expertise.
• Familiarity with cloud-based UC platforms and network protocols.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain telecom systems including PBX, VoIP, voicemail and UC platforms.
• Monitor system performance, availability and capacity with necessary adjustments.
• Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery planning/testing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues, hardware and software.
• Implement and manage security policies for telecom systems.
• Install, configure and upgrade telecom software and hardware components.
• Manage user accounts, permissions and access controls.
• Develop and maintain system documentation and procedures.
• Collaborate with vendors for technical support and issue resolution.
• Provide technical support to end-users and IT teams for telecom queries.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in systems administration, specifically focused on telecommunications systems.
• Hands-on experience with VoIP technologies, SIP protocol, and IP telephony systems.
• Proficiency in managing cloud-based UC platforms is a plus.
• Strong understanding of network infrastructure, TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
• Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems.
• Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
