Placements24 is seeking a Telecommunications Systems Administrator in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on maintaining PBX, VoIP, and unified communications, ensuring reliable voice and data services and seamless user experience.

You will troubleshoot, configure hardware/software, and document procedures in a hybrid on-site/remote environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with PBX/VoIP, SIP, Cisco Call Manager or Asterisk, and relevant security and networking

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Telecommunications Systems Administrator or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of PBX, VoIP, SIP, and unified communications platforms.
• Experience with TCP/IP networks, VLANs, and QoS.

Responsibilities

• Administer, manage, and maintain PBX/VoIP/voicemail/conferencing platforms.
• Install, configure, and upgrade telecom hardware and software.
• Monitor performance, identify issues, and perform preventative maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve telecom issues with minimal service disruption.
• Manage user accounts, extensions, and calling privileges.
• Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Implement and manage network security for telecom systems.
• Collaborate with IT to integrate telecom with other infrastructure.
• Provide technical support and end-user training on telecom features.

About the Role

Our client, a leading force in the telecommunications industry, is actively recruiting for a skilled Telecommunications Systems Administrator to join their team in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is critical for maintaining and optimizing the company's internal and external communication systems, including VoIP, PBX, and unified communications platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of telecommunications hardware and software, coupled with strong troubleshooting and administrative capabilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of all voice and data communication services, supporting business operations and enhancing user experience. This hybrid position allows for a blend of on-site responsibilities and remote flexibility, fostering a productive and modern work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, manage, and maintain the organization's telecommunications systems, including PBX, VoIP, voicemail, and conferencing platforms.
• Install, configure, and upgrade telecommunication hardware and software components.
• Monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and implement preventative maintenance measures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve telecommunication system issues, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
• Manage user accounts, extensions, and calling privileges within the telecommunication systems.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Implement and manage network security protocols for telecommunications systems.
• Collaborate with IT and network teams to integrate telecommunications systems with other infrastructure.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Telecommunications Systems Administrator or in a similar role.
• In-depth knowledge of PBX systems, VoIP technology, SIP protocol, and unified communications platforms (e.g., Cisco Call Manager, Asterisk, Microsoft Teams Voice).
• Experience with network infrastructure, including TCP/IP, VLANs, and QoS.
• Familiarity with telecommunications hardware, such as IP phones and gateways.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA Voice) are advantageous.
• Experience with ACD (Automatic Call Distribution) systems is a plus.
