Job summary

Tumaini Consulting is seeking a Technical Sales Manager to lead our sales team and act as the technical authority for Personal Lines and Commercial business. You will approve and rate quotations within delegated authority, manage specialist product classes, assist with reinsurance, and perform technical due diligence on broker books of business.

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12) with Full qualification in Short-Term Insurance (NQF 4).
• RE5 essential; RE1 advantageous; FAIS Fit & Proper required.
• Minimum 5 years' underwriting or technical sales in short-term insurance.
• Minimum 3 years' experience managing a team.
• Sound knowledge of Personal Lines and Commercial products, rating, policy wordings; reinsurance knowledge.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel; Word and Outlook; experience on TIAL System A advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Approve and rate Personal Lines and Commercial quotations within delegated authority.
• Manage specialist product classes (e.g., products liability) and assist with reinsurance administration.
• Conduct technical due diligence on broker books of business and report findings.
• Escalate and resolve technical queries; handle sales-related complaints.

Job description

We are currently seeking a Technical Sales Manager to join our client.The Technical Sales Manager is the technical authority within the Sales department for both Personal Lines and Commercial business. The role approves and rates quotations within a delegated authority, manages specialist product classes (such as products liability), assists with the administration of reinsurance, and conducts technical due diligence on broker books of business. Furthermore, the role leads and develops a team of internal sales staff, ensures operational quality within the sales function, and provides technical support to brokers, Portfolio Managers, and internal staff.

Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12) - essential; Full qualification in Short-Term Insurance (NQF 4) - essential.
• Higher Certificate in Short-Term Insurance (NQF 5) or higher - advantageous.
• Regulatory Examination for Representatives (RE5) - essential; Regulatory Examination for Key Individuals (RE1) - advantageous.
• FAIS Fit & Proper, including class-of-business training and CPD - essential.
• Minimum 5 years' underwriting or technical sales experience in short-term insurance - essential.
• Minimum 3 years' experience managing a team - essential.
• Sound technical knowledge of Personal Lines and Commercial products, rating and policy wordings, and working knowledge of reinsurance - essential.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel, proficient in Word and Outlook, with work experience on the TIAL Operating System (System A) highly advantageous.

Experience with

• Approving and rating Personal Lines and Commercial quotations within a delegated authority, referring risks outside mandate to Underwriting.
• Managing specialist product classes (such as products liability) and assisting with the administration of reinsurance, including facultative placements.
• Conducting technical due diligence on broker books of business and reporting findings and recommendations to management.
• Acting as an escalation point for technical queries, resolving sales-related queries, and handling complaint resolution.
• Training new sales staff, running refresher training, assessing staff competence, and developing internal training manuals.
• Preparing and presenting monthly reports, testing new systems and quoting platforms, and coordinating the launch of new products and initiatives.
