Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Substation Technician for our client in Mahikeng, North West. The role covers maintenance, testing, and repair of high‑voltage substation equipment to ensure reliable power delivery and grid stability.

You will diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance, install and commission new equipment, and respond to emergencies while following strict safety and LOTO procedures.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent trade qualification.
• Minimum 4 years' experience as Substation Technician or similar HV role.
• Experience with testing and maintenance of substation equipment.
• Strong HV safety procedures and LOTO knowledge.
• Proficient with HV test equipment (TTR testers, insulation resistance testers, relay test sets).
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Valid driver's license.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or a relevant trade qualification (e.g., Electrician with substation experience).

• Proven experience with testing and maintenance of substation equipment.
• Strong understanding of high‑voltage safety procedures and LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) principles.
• Proficiency in using test equipment such as TTR testers, insulation resistance testers, and relay test sets.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
