About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified and safety-conscious Substation Maintenance Technician to join their critical infrastructure team in Randburg . This role is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of electrical substation equipment to ensure the reliable and safe delivery of power. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, diagnose equipment failures, and implement repairs to minimize downtime and ensure operational integrity. This is a hands‑on position requiring a strong understanding of electrical systems and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards in a demanding operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems within the substation.
• Conduct repairs and replacements of faulty components, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and technical specifications.
• Operate and maintain testing equipment used for substation apparatus.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and generate reports on equipment status and repair activities.

Requirements

• National Diploma or N3 in Electrical Engineering or a related trade qualification.
• Demonstrable experience (3+ years) as a substation technician or in a related electrical maintenance role.
• Strong understanding of electrical power systems , substation components, and safety protocols (e.g., LOTO).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Commitment to safety and a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions in the Randburg area.
