Placements24 in Bloemfontein seeks an Electrical Technician with Substation expertise to join our operations team. This hands-on role focuses on the maintenance, repair, and testing of high‑voltage substation equipment to ensure a reliable power supply for the Free State.

You will diagnose faults, interpret schematics, and contribute to installation, commissioning, and decommissioning activities. A National Diploma or N6 in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) and a minimum of 4 years'

Qualifications

• National Diploma or N6 Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) required.
• Minimum 4 years of experience as an Electrical Technician in substation maintenance and operations.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, protection relays and control circuits.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and schematics.
• Valid drivers license and willingness to standby for overtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and diagnostic testing on substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Respond to and troubleshoot electrical faults and outages, restoring power efficiently and safely.
• Assist in the installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of substation components.
• Interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals to perform repairs and modifications.
• Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures and company policies while working on energized or de-energized equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and repairs performed.
