Placements24 is assisting a client in recruiting a skilled Field Service Engineer for the Energy Sector in the Polokwane region. The role covers installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical substation equipment, with extensive travel to client sites.

You will diagnose and fix issues on transformers, switchgear, protection relays and control panels, read P&IDs and schematics, and uphold stringent safety standards while delivering reliable grid support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years in field service, maintenance, or engineering related to electrical substations and HV equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting/repairing transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and control panels.
• Strong understanding of power systems, grid operations, and HV safety protocols.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, commission, and maintain substation equipment on-site.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues with transformers, switchgear, relays, and control systems.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance for longevity of equipment.
• Respond to emergencies and restore service under pressure.

This role involves traveling to various sites to perform installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of critical electrical substation components. Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and control systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues with substation equipment, providing effective and timely solutions.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure the optimal functioning and longevity of equipment.
• Respond to emergency calls for equipment failures or performance issues, working under pressure to restore service.
• Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings to guide repair and maintenance activities.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, industry standards, and client requirements within the Energy Sector .

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in field service, maintenance, or engineering related to electrical substations and high-voltage equipment.
• Proven expertise in troubleshooting and repairing components such as transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, and control panels.
• Strong understanding of power systems, grid operations, and safety protocols in high-voltage environments.
• Ability to read and understand complex technical documentation, including P&IDs and electrical schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and travel extensively within the Polokwane area and surrounding regions.
