Placements24 seeks a Substation Engineer to advance the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of critical electrical grid infrastructure in the North West region, including Mahikeng. You will lead HV substation projects, assess protection schemes, and drive reliability with automation technologies.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in substation engineering, Pr.Eng is an advantage, and strong CAD/ETAP/PSS/E skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years in substation engineering or related power systems roles.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of high‑voltage equipment and protection systems.
• Experience with CAD and power system analysis software.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer substation layouts, equipment specifications, and single-line diagrams for new projects and upgrades.
• Develop and review protection and control schemes for high-voltage equipment.
• Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of substation components.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and protection relays.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes, industry standards, and safety regulations.

You will be involved in the design, construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting of substation equipment and systems. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of high-voltage electrical systems, protection schemes, and substation automation, and is committed to upholding safety and reliability standards in a critical energy infrastructure environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer substation layouts, equipment specifications, and single-line diagrams for new projects and upgrades.
