Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer to drive long-term resource development and strategic planning for our Port Elizabeth operations. You will develop detailed mine plans, optimize production schedules, and collaborate with geology and operations teams to maximize value in a hybrid on-site/remote setup.

Ideal candidates bring a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, 6+ years in mine planning (open-pit preferred), and strong proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, or Surpac.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in mine planning, preferably open-pit operations.
• Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan or Surpac.
• Strong understanding of geostatistics, geotechnical engineering, and mine economics.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans, including open-pit designs and production schedules.
• Conduct geotechnical assessments and feasibility studies to support mine development.
• Utilise mine planning software to model ore bodies, design pits, and plan infrastructure.
• Collaborate with geologists to define resource models and reconciliation processes.
• Perform economic evaluations and sensitivity analyses for proposed mine plans.
• Ensure plans comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
