Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer to join the strategic planning division in Centurion. You will develop short, medium, and long-term mine plans, optimizing resource use and safety, while collaborating with geologists, production managers, and financial analysts.

The role emphasizes integration of geological data into actionable designs and schedules, with a hybrid work model and a focus on sustainable resource development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mine planning, design, and operations.
• Proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or Surpac.
• Strong understanding of open-pit or underground mining methods, geotechnical principles, and economic evaluation techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Ability to effectively collaborate in a hybrid work environment, balancing office-based and remote work.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed short-term, medium-term, and long-term mine production plans and schedules.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects and extensions.
• Optimize mine designs, including pit slopes, layouts, and sequencing, to maximize resource recovery and minimize costs.
• Liaise with operations teams to ensure plans are practical and achievable, providing technical support as needed.
• Utilize mine planning software to generate visualisations, reports, and drill targets.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of mine planning processes and standards.
