Placements24 is seeking a proactive Mine Planning Engineer based in Randburg to develop short, medium and long-term mine plans that balance resource extraction with safety and profitability.

The role requires collaboration with geology, surveying and operations teams, utilizing Deswik, Vulcan, and Surpac to translate resource models into actionable designs. A strong analytical mindset and effective communication are essential for success in this hybrid role.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of mine planning experience (open-pit or underground).
• Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, and Surpac.
• Strong understanding of mining methods, economics and geological principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and spatial reasoning skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid on-site/remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop integrated mine plans, including pit designs, stope layouts, and production schedules.
• Utilize mine planning software to generate and optimize mine designs.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for mine development projects.
• Collaborate with geologists to interpret resource models and define mineable reserves.
• Work with operations teams to ensure plans are practical and efficiently implementable.
• Monitor mine performance against plan and revise schedules as necessary.
