Job summary

Sibanye-Stillwater is seeking an Officer Strata Control (GR1–GR3) to support service delivery for strata control processes while working under supervision. This role focuses on data handling, compliance with procedures, and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient underground operations.

Applicants should have MMC experience in underground mining, SCO theory, and a valid driving license where applicable, with an emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance within the operation.

Qualifications

• Two years' relevant underground mining experience.
• SCO theory exam completed.
• Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
• Clear security screening record.
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
• COM Strata Control Certificate (advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Data management and handling of strata control data.
• Understand service requirements for strata control processes.
• Participate in panel support audits and record supports.
• Ensure equipment and materials are available.
• Gather underground data and apply rock engineering criteria.
• Observe geology and mining practices and advise on conditions.
• Record and maintain data for decision making.
• Report data and problems to stakeholders and improve safety/productivity.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures and SHE standards.

• NQF 4 (National Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent) with Maths and Science

Key Responsibilities

• Data Management
• Ensure a thorough understanding of the service requirements related to operational strata control processes.
• Participate in panel support audits through measuring and recording supports installed, i.e. distances, degrees, dips.
• Ensure that all required equipment and material are available.
• Gather underground data.
• Apply Rock Engineering criteria.
• Observe and determine relevant geology and mining practices or conditions.
• Assign numbers to geological conditions (Rock Mass Rating).
• Perform basic calculations.
• Record, capture and maintain data and information for referencing and decision-making purposes.
• Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
• Reporting
• Report on data and information gathered.
• Compile reports and statistical summaries of data and information.
• Report unexpected problems to the relevant stakeholders.
• Make recommendations to increase the safety and productivity of the mining environment.

• Adhere to strata control practices and principles.
• Adhere to standardisation requirements related to strata control services and support.
• Complete all necessary administration required.

• Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally.
• Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders.
• Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable.

• Ensures that costs are controlled and wastage of resources is eliminated by working within prescribed budgets. Reports deviations to Supervisor. Building a values-based organisational culture

Job Purpose

• The OFFICER STRATA CONTROL (GR1 - GR3) will be developed in the role whilst participating in service delivery and support provision related to strata control processes under supervision of the Strata Control Officer.
