Job summary

Supermicro is seeking a Senior Field Application Engineer to join a focused team serving global IT customers. You will work with customers from ground to executive level, manage projects with internal and external teams, and drive business continuity and technical success.

You must lead multi-disciplinary efforts across departments, demonstrate strong knowledge of firmware, Linux, Windows, virtualization, and x86 server architectures, and travel up to 25% to implement and resolve customer needs

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering.
• 10 yrs+ experience with tier1 customers and partners in South Africa region.
• Minimum 5 year related experience with Compute/Storage Server or Data Center IT Infrastructure.
• Strong background and experience with x86-based server architecture.
• Familiarity with Firmware, Linux, Windows and virtualization platforms is a plus.
• Strong technical communication and leadership skills to lead investigations with engineers of multiple disciplines.
• Fluency in English and local language required, other languages are plus.

Responsibilities

• Maps end-user customer business, partner requirements and provides optimized technical solutions.
• Provides technical leadership in Pre-Sales and oversees implementation of such solutions.
• Leads product HW and SW engineers during product development.
• Works with cross-department teams to ensure customer satisfaction and timely issue resolution.
• Visits on-site facilities to enable solution integration and issue resolution.

Job Summary:

The Sr. Field Application Engineer (FAE) will be part of a growing, dynamic, highly-focused team responsible for developing new or existing opportunities in the global IT market. You will be required to work with customers from ground to executive-level, manage projects hand in hand with internal and external teams, and help grow the business whenever possible. Customer and solution focus, are two key factors for this position, as well as business continuity and support. You must work with multiple departments to ensure new projects and existing projects are initiated or maintained towards customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Works closely with the sales and extended teams to map end-user customer business, partner requirements and provide most optimized technical solutions.
• Provides technical leadership in Pre-Sales and oversee implementation of such solutions.
• Highly technical problem solver who understands system architecture, hardware and software interaction.
• Should possess basic HW debug skills.
• Manage and leads product HW and SW engineers during product development.
• Manage and leads teams during investigation and resolution of problems in the field.
• Has a good understanding of firmware, drivers, OS, Applications and their interaction that can cause system issues.
• Develop and review systems solutions, technical bid responses and presentations.
• Work cross-department to ensure customer satisfaction and timely resolution of issues.
• Ability to build and demonstrate proof-of-concept that meets or exceeds customer business needs.
• Ability to present the corporate brand, product messaging and solutions to customers.
• Visit on-site facilities and operations to enable solution integration and issue resolution.
• Some travel required (up to 25%).

Qualifications:

• Bachelors' or Masters' degree in engineering discipline; computer science, computer engineering and electrical engineering preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and business sense required.
• 10 yrs+ experience in working with tier1 customers and partners in South Africa region.
• Minimum 5 year related experience with Compute/Storage Server or Data Center or IT Infrastructure experience desired.
• Strong background and experience with x86-based server architecture.
• Solid HW system design and diagnostics skills.
• Familiarity with Firmware, Linux, Windows and virtualization platforms is a plus.
• Strong technical communication and leadership skills to lead investigations with engineers of multiple disciplines.
• Individual must be able to work effectively in a high pressure environment.
