Placements24 represents a respected Benoni restaurant in Gauteng seeking a skilled Sous Chef to assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations. You will help with menu planning, recipe execution, and staff development, ensuring high-quality dishes and consistent presentation.

The role requires a minimum of 3 years in a similar position, strong leadership, and a solid grasp of food costing and hygiene standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years as Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie in a reputable restaurant.
• Proven leadership and staff mentoring ability.
• Strong understanding of food costing, inventory, and waste reduction.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards in a professional kitchen.
• Culinary certification or diploma is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen management and operations.
• Supervise and guide junior kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to recipes and standards.
• Prepare and cook dishes to the highest quality, presentation, and consistency.
• Assist in menu development and creation of daily specials.
• Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stock rotation, to control food costs and minimize waste.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations.
• Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure it is in good working order.
• Train new kitchen staff on culinary techniques, station management, and safety procedures.
• Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment within the kitchen.
• Step in as Head Chef in their absence.
