Placements24 is seeking a talented Sous Chef for a prestigious fine dining catering team in Benoni, Gauteng. You will support the Head Chef in kitchen operations, contribute to menu development, supervise staff, and uphold the highest standards of quality and hygiene for high-profile events.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in a sous chef or senior role, formal culinary training, and strong leadership with inventory management and food-safety expertise.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years in Sous Chef or senior role within fine dining or high-volume catering.
• Formal culinary training or certification from a recognized institution is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in a wide range of cooking techniques and flavour profiles.
• Experience in menu planning, costing and inventory management.
• Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
• Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene protocols.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen management and operations.
• Supervise and train junior kitchen staff, ensuring consistency with recipes and techniques.
• Prepare and cook high-quality dishes, maintaining presentation standards.
• Contribute to menu planning and development, including specials.
• Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving and stock rotation to control costs.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, equipment and storage areas.
• Deputize for the Head Chef when absent.
• Monitor quality and portion control.
• Collaborate with front-of-house staff and event coordinators.
