Placements24 in Pretoria is seeking a skilled Sous Chef to join a busy catering operation. As second-in-command to the Head Chef, you will help manage daily kitchen operations, assist in menu planning, and ensure consistent quality for diverse events.

You will lead by example, supervise junior staff, uphold food safety standards, and control costs while delivering memorable dining experiences.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience as Sous Chef or senior line cook.
Proficient in a wide range of culinary techniques and cooking methods.
Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
Excellent leadership and communication skills; strong problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and multitask effectively.
Relevant culinary qualifications or certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist Head Chef with menu planning, recipe development, and food costing.
Oversee daily kitchen operations from prep to plating, ensuring consistency with recipes and standards.
Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff, providing guidance and training.
Manage inventory, purchasing, and storage rotation of ingredients.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, complying with health regulations.
Step in to manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
