Placements24 is seeking a Senior VoIP Engineer for our East London-based client. The role focuses on the design, deployment, and management of a scalable VoIP infrastructure, with emphasis on reliability, performance, and call quality across SIP and RTP protocols.

The position offers hybrid work, combining on-site collaboration at the East London office with remote flexibility, within the Eastern Cape region. A strong background in VoIP platforms and cloud-based solutions is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering or related field (or equivalent).
• 5+ years designing, implementing and managing VoIP systems.
• Strong knowledge of SIP, RTP, H.323 and other VoIP protocols.
• Experience with Cisco CallManager, Asterisk or Avaya.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain VoIP systems and infrastructure.
• Manage SIP, RTP and other VoIP protocols and troubleshoot issues.
• Ensure high availability and performance of the VoIP network.
• Collaborate with network and systems teams to integrate VoIP solutions.
• Perform capacity planning and recommend upgrades.
• Document VoIP configurations, procedures, and standards.
• Monitor call quality and optimize user experience.
• Respond to escalated issues and resolve complex problems.

This role is central to the design, implementation, and management of our client's Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure, ensuring reliable and high-quality voice communication services. You will be responsible for troubleshooting complex issues, optimizing performance, and staying ahead of technological advancements in the VoIP landscape. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience with various VoIP platforms and protocols, strong analytical skills, and a dedication to providing exceptional service. Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain VoIP systems and related infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing VoIP systems.
• In-depth knowledge of SIP, RTP, H.323, and other VoIP protocols.
• Experience with VoIP platforms such as Cisco CallManager, Asterisk, or Avaya.
• Strong understanding of IP networking, including QoS, VLANs, and routing.
• Familiarity with network security principles as they apply to VoIP.
• Experience with call detail record (CDR) analysis and reporting tools.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Experience with cloud-based VoIP solutions is a plus.
