Placements24 seeks a Senior VoIP Solutions Engineer for a fully remote role. You’ll design, implement, and support scalable VoIP platforms, integrating with diverse IT environments. The position requires strong expertise in SIP, H.323, RTP, SRTP, and SBCs, with a track record of delivering reliable real-time voice solutions.

You will mentor junior engineers, participate in on-call rotations, and stay current with VoIP technologies. Remote work flexibility within SA and abroad is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of progressive VoIP engineering experience.
• Deep knowledge of SIP, H.323, RTP, SRTP.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic leader in unified communications, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior VoIP Solutions Engineer to join their fully remote technical team. This role is critical in designing, implementing, and supporting robust Voice over IP (VoIP) solutions for a diverse clientele. You will be responsible for architecting scalable and reliable communication platforms, ensuring seamless integration with existing IT infrastructures, and providing expert-level technical support. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, ZA or remotely abroad, allowing you to shape your work environment. We are looking for a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of VoIP protocols, telephony systems, and network infrastructure, coupled with a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage VoIP solutions, including PBX systems, session border controllers (SBCs), and SIP trunking.
• Configure and troubleshoot VoIP endpoints, gateways, and related hardware/software.
• Develop comprehensive network designs to support real-time voice traffic, ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) and low latency.
• Collaborate with clients to understand their communication needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Provide expert-level technical support and troubleshooting for complex VoIP-related issues.
• Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including network diagrams, configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Stay current with emerging VoIP technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
• Conduct performance monitoring and optimization of VoIP systems to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and support staff on VoIP technologies and best practices.
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in VoIP engineering and telecommunications.
• In-depth knowledge of VoIP protocols, including SIP, H.323, RTP, and SRTP.
• Hands-on experience with major VoIP platforms (e.g., Cisco Call Manager, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Microsoft Teams Voice).
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, and QoS.
• Experience with session border controllers (SBCs) from vendors like Oracle, Ribbon, or Cisco.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex network and telephony issues remotely.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively in a remote setting.
• Certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP Voice or equivalent are highly desirable.
