Job summary

ManpowerGroup Malta is seeking an experienced Underwriting Team Lead in Gauteng to manage Personal Lines and Commercial quotations within delegated authority, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines and SOPs.

You will lead a team, coach sales staff, monitor performance, and coordinate rollouts of new systems and product launches. Strong Excel skills and FAIS compliance are essential.

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12).
• Full qualification in Short-Term Insurance (NQF 4) or higher.
• RE5 essential; RE1 advantageous.
• FAIS Fit & Proper; CPD compliance.
• Minimum 5 years' underwriting or technical sales in short-term insurance.
• Sound knowledge of Personal Lines and Commercial products, rating and wordings.
• Experience with reinsurance, treaty limits and facultative placements.
• Minimum 3 years' experience managing a team.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel; Word and Outlook proficiency.
• Experience with specialist classes such as products liability (advantageous).
• Experience training adults and developing training material (advantageous).
• Experience testing new systems or quoting platforms (advantageous).
• Experience on TIAL Operating System (System A) is highly advantageous.
• Own transport; willing to work overtime and after-hours when required.

Responsibilities

• Approve and rate Personal Lines and Commercial quotations within delegated authority; refer risks outside mandate.
• Ensure new business issued in line with SOPs, guidelines and treaty limits.
• Manage specialist classes (e.g., products liability) including risk assessment and policy wordings.
• Assist with reinsurance administration, including facultative placements.
• Conduct technical due diligence on broker books and report findings.
• Act as escalation point for technical queries from sales staff, brokers and PMs.
• Investigate and resolve complaints; report to Management and Compliance when required.
• Train and coach sales staff on products, underwriting guidelines and platforms.
• Keep team FAIS Fit & Proper and CPD compliant.
• Lead the team: set objectives, manage performance, review, and succession planning.
• Collaborate with Operations Manager to improve sales processes and service levels.
• Prepare monthly reports (quotes, sales, closing rates, declines, commission) and due diligence findings.
• Test new systems and platforms and coordinate rollouts within Sales.
