Placements24 is seeking a Senior Technical Artist to join their creative team in Klerksdorp. You will bridge art and technology, developing and optimizing art pipelines, tools, and workflows to empower artists and engineers.

You will collaborate closely with artists to troubleshoot issues, implement shaders, lighting, and rendering techniques, and profile assets for performance across target platforms, ensuring high visual quality within project constraints.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist or in a related role within the games industry.
• Strong proficiency in 3D modeling, texturing, and rendering software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Substance Painter).
• Expertise in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL) and game engine technical art features (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Deep understanding of rendering pipelines, shaders, and performance optimization techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize art pipelines, tools, and scripts to improve artist efficiency and asset quality.
• Collaborate with artists to troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions for integrating assets into the game engine.
• Implement and refine shaders, lighting setups, and rendering techniques to achieve desired visual targets.
• Profile and optimize art assets for performance across target platforms.
• Liaise between art and engineering teams to ensure smooth asset integration and development processes.
