Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Structural Mechanical Engineer in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, to lead mechanical design and analysis of structural elements for infrastructure projects, collaborating with civil and structural teams.

You will apply FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS) to stress, fatigue, and vibration analyses, select materials, prepare design reports, and ensure compliance with SABS/Eurocodes/AISC, while delivering robust solutions on long-term programs.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in structural mechanics or materials science.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering with exposure to structural analysis and design for infrastructure.
• Expert proficiency in FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS).
• Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, structural dynamics, and material behavior under load.
• Experience with relevant engineering codes and standards (e.g., SABS, Eurocodes, AISC).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design.
• Strong report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with large-scale construction or infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design and analysis for structural elements in infrastructure projects (e.g., bridges, buildings, industrial facilities).
• Conduct detailed stress, strain, fatigue, and vibration analysis using FEA software.
• Evaluate and select appropriate materials based on mechanical properties, environmental conditions, and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop technical specifications, design reports, and drawings related to mechanical structural components.
• Collaborate with civil and structural engineers to integrate mechanical design considerations into overall project plans.
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering codes, standards, and safety regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and support during construction and implementation phases.
• Review contractor submittals and design modifications.
• Identify and resolve mechanical engineering challenges related to structural performance.
