Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Principal Structural Engineer based in Benoni with a hybrid work model. You will lead structural design and analysis for major mining and industrial projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with international design codes.

The role demands a Master’s/PhD in Structural Engineering and Pr.Eng registration, with at least 12 years of progressive experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering or closely related field.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with focus on mining/heavy industrial sectors.
• Extensive experience in steel, concrete, and foundation design.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software (STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS) and CAD tools.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and client liaison capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and analysis of major mining and industrial projects from concept through completion.
• Develop detailed structural calculations, drawings, and specifications for steel and concrete structures.
• Perform advanced structural analysis using FEA software.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes (SANS, Eurocode, AISC) and industry best practices.
• Review and approve designs prepared by junior engineers and draftsmen.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the structural engineering team.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and other discipline engineers to ensure project objectives are met.
• Conduct site inspections and investigations to assess existing structures and provide recommendations.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for structural components.
• Contribute to engineering standards and procedures development.
