Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Reservoir Geologist to join our exploration and production team in Mossel Bay. The role centers on identifying hydrocarbon-bearing formations and building detailed subsurface models to guide exploration and development.

You will collaborate with engineers and geophysicists to evaluate porosity, permeability, and reservoir variability, and to plan drilling targets and field development strategies in the Western Cape region.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field with specialization in sedimentology or reservoir characterization.
• 6+ years of experience in reservoir geology within oil and gas.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software (Petrel, GeoGraphix, RMS).
• Strong understanding of sequence stratigraphy, petrophysics, and core analysis techniques.
• Experience with seismic interpretation and attribute analysis.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex datasets into actionable insights.

Responsibilities

• Integrate geological, geophysical, and engineering data to develop detailed 3D reservoir models.
• Perform formation evaluation using well logs, core samples, and seismic interpretations.
• Characterize reservoir properties (porosity, permeability, saturation, heterogeneity).
• Identify drilling targets and assist in planning and executing exploration and appraisal wells.
• Estimate hydrocarbon volumes and assess geological risks for field development.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers to optimize production strategies based on geological models.
