Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with 7+ years’ experience in data privacy law is required. You will advise on DPIAs, PIA, data processing agreements, cross-border transfers, and privacy notices

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding technology services provider, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Privacy Lawyer to lead its data protection initiatives. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to shape and implement global data privacy strategies. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with POPIA, GDPR, and other relevant privacy regulations across all business operations. This critical role requires a proactive and knowledgeable legal professional who can navigate the complexities of data privacy law and provide strategic guidance to senior management, contributing significantly to the company's secure and compliant growth from any location.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with South African POPIA and international data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).
• Advise on data processing agreements, cross-border data transfers, and data subject rights.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
• Manage data breach response protocols and liaise with regulatory authorities.
• Provide training and awareness programs on data privacy best practices to employees.
• Advise on privacy aspects of new product development and marketing initiatives.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 7 years' experience, specializing in data privacy and protection law.
• In-depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other international privacy frameworks.
• Experience in drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and privacy notices.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess privacy risks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a remote legal function effectively.
