Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Process Safety Engineer to strengthen its safety team in Durban. The role emphasizes hazard identification, risk assessment and robust safety-management systems to safeguard people, assets and the environment.

You will lead PHAs, develop PSM programs, investigate incidents, ensure compliance with global standards, and train staff. A chemical engineering degree, 7+ years in process safety, and CSP/CCPSC certifications are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in process safety engineering in petrochemical/oil & gas/chemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM principles, including PHA methods, mechanical integrity, and management of change.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) design and functional safety (IEC 61511).

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If for new/existing processes.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Conduct incident investigations and root-cause analyses; recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant national/international process safety regulations and standards.
• Review engineering designs to meet process safety requirements; deliver process safety training to staff.
