Job summary

Placements24 in Randburg seeks a Safety Chemical Engineer to champion process safety at our facility. You will assess risks, implement safety programs, and drive compliance with OSHA/other standards, while promoting a robust safety culture.

You will work with operations, engineering and EHS teams to perform PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA), review designs for risk reduction, train staff, and lead continuous safety improvements to prevent incidents and protect personnel and the environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience focused on process safety management in chemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, What-If).
• Familiarity with safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, COMAH).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and training abilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP studies.
• Develop and implement safety procedures and management systems (e.g., PSM).
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with national and international safety regulations and standards.
• Provide safety training and guidance to engineering and operational personnel.
• Review engineering designs for safety compliance and risk reduction.
