Placements24 in Randburg is seeking a vigilant Chemical Safety Engineer to develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety programs for chemical handling, processing, and storage. You will lead risk assessments, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance to prevent accidents and protect staff and the environment.

The role requires 5+ years in chemical process safety, strong knowledge of safety regulations, and proven ability to foster a safety culture with training and documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in chemical process safety engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, COMAH) and industry best practices.
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement robust process safety management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Conduct thorough hazard identification and risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA) for all chemical processes.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all national and international health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels.
• Maintain and update safety documentation, including emergency response plans and safety data sheets (SDS).
