Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Power Systems Protection Engineer in Soweto to design and configure protective relays for transmission, distribution, and generation facilities. You will develop protection settings using system studies and perform testing and commissioning of relays to ensure reliability.

You will investigate disturbances, analyze relay operations, and ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE standards while collaborating with field personnel and engineers to maintain protection system

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems specialization.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in power system protection engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of protective relaying for transformers, lines, generators and motors.
• Experience with protection software ETAP or ASPEN.
• Experience with relay testing equipment Omicron or Doble.
• Strong understanding of power system dynamics, fault analysis and stability.

Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and configure protective relaying schemes for transmission, distribution, and generation facilities.
• Develop protection settings based on system studies and load flow analysis.
• Perform testing and commissioning of protective relays and equipment.
• Investigate disturbances and analyze relay operations to identify causes and improvements.
• Ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE standards and company protection policies.
• Collaborate with design engineers, field personnel and operations to maintain protection integrity.
