Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Engineer specializing in packaging automation in Johannesburg, Gauteng. You will lead design, development, and implementation of advanced automated packaging systems, collaborating with production, maintenance, and R&D to boost efficiency and product quality.

The role requires 5–7 years in packaging automation, PLC/HMI/SCADA proficiency, and experience with robotics and vision systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or related field.
5–7 years in process engineering with a focus on packaging automation.
Proven track record designing, implementing, and optimizing automated packaging lines.
PLC programming and HMI/SCADA proficiency (Siemens/Allen-Bradley).
Knowledge of robotics, conveyors, vision systems and related packaging automation components.
Strong manufacturing principles, lean and Six Sigma exposure.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Experience with project management tools is a plus.
Familiarity with Johannesburg's industrial landscape is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement automated packaging systems to improve efficiency.
Analyze processes, identify bottlenecks, propose automation solutions.
Oversee installation, commissioning, and validation of equipment and software.
Create and maintain P&IDs, electrical schematics, and manuals.
Collaborate with vendors to select and procure automation hardware/software.
Perform regular performance audits and implement modifications.
Train junior engineers on automation technologies.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure on-time delivery.
