Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to lead mine planning and design near George, Western Cape. You will develop short- and long-term plans, optimize layouts, and oversee drilling and blasting strategies to maximize resource value and safety.

The role requires a minimum of 7 years’ experience, a degree in mining engineering, and proficiency with major planning software. On-site work with potential growth and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mine planning and design, preferably within operations.
• Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, Datamine or similar planning software.
• Strong understanding of open-pit and/or underground mining methods and constraints.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Experience leading teams and coordinating cross-functional projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and update short-term and long-term mine plans and schedules.
• Design mine layouts including pit designs for open-pit and stopes for underground operations.
• Prepare drilling and blasting plans compliant with safety and geological parameters.
• Utilize planning software to generate mine models, optimize designs, and produce forecasts.
• Conduct feasibility studies, economic evaluations, and sensitivity analyses.
• Collaborate with geology, engineering, and operations to align planning and execution.
• Monitor performance against plans and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare technical reports and regulatory submissions; mentor junior engineers.
