Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mine Infrastructure Engineer for a major mining organization in East London, Eastern Cape. The role covers design, construction and ongoing maintenance of mine surface facilities, roads, drainage and potentially rail links.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree, Pr.Eng registration (desirable), and 10+ years of infrastructure project leadership within mining or heavy industry. Travel to sites and regulatory compliance are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional registration (Pr.Eng) is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in managing infrastructure projects, with mining or heavy industrial exposure.
• Proven design and construction experience of roads, earthworks, and reinforced concrete structures.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and software (e.g., MS Project).
• Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Understanding of South African engineering standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Willingness to travel to mine sites and reside within commuting distance of East London.

Responsibilities

• Manage lifecycle of mine infrastructure projects from conception to handover.
• Develop detailed designs for surface infrastructure including buildings, roads, bridges, and water systems.
• Oversee selection and management of contractors and consultants.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
• Conduct site investigations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with mine planning, operations, and environmental teams.
• Develop and manage maintenance programs for long‑term asset integrity.
• Monitor budgets, timelines, and progress; report to senior management.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
