Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex litigation cases from inception through to resolution, including pre-trial discovery, motion practice, and trial.
• Develop comprehensive litigation strategies and provide expert legal counsel to clients on case prospects and risk assessment.
• Draft and file all necessary legal documents, including claims, defences, appeals, and substantive motions.
• Conduct thorough legal research, analysis, and factual investigations to build strong cases.
• Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations.
• Manage external counsel and expert witnesses effectively.
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, providing regular updates on case progress.
• Oversee discovery processes, including document review and production, and deposition preparation.
• Ensure compliance with all court rules, procedural requirements, and ethical obligations.
• Mentor and guide junior legal staff and paralegals within the remote team structure.
• Stay current with legal precedents, legislative changes, and best practices in litigation.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent qualification.
• Admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum of 10 years of substantial experience practicing civil litigation.
• Proven track record of successfully handling complex, high-stakes litigation matters.
• Extensive knowledge of South African civil procedure, evidence law, and relevant substantive law.
• Exceptional courtroom advocacy, negotiation, and mediation skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
