Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior HSE Engineer for a fully remote role in South Africa's oil and gas landscape. You will develop and implement HSE strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and advise on best practices from a distance.

You will lead audits, risk assessments, investigations, and training programs, while promoting a strong safety culture and managing emergency response plans across operations. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 8+ years in HSE

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HSE or related field is required.
• Extensive experience in oil & gas or heavy industry HSE management.
• Strong knowledge of HSE legislation and standards (OHS Act, environmental regs).
• Proven ability to lead risk assessments, HAZOPs, and investigations.
• Experience delivering training and managing contractor HSE programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive HSE strategies, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations, and fostering a robust safety culture. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in HSE management within the Oil & Gas or related heavy industries.
• In-depth knowledge of HSE legislation, standards, and best practices (e.g., OHS Act, environmental regulations).
• Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, HAZOPs, and incident investigations.
• Strong understanding of environmental management systems and sustainability principles.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
• Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or CSP are highly desirable.
• Experience in developing and implementing contractor HSE management programs.
