Placements24 is seeking an experienced Remote HSE Manager for a global energy client. You will lead HSE strategy, policies, and compliance across a distributed, fully remote workforce in South Africa, ensuring safety and environmental protection throughout operations.

You will drive risk management, incident investigations, audits, and emergency planning while mentoring the HSE team and liaising with regulators. A senior, proactive leader with ISO 14001/45001 knowledge is preferred.

About the Role

Our client, a global leader in the Oil & Gas industry , is seeking an experienced and proactive Remote HSE Manager to oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance for their virtual operations. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in South Africa . You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring HSE strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the highest standards of safety and environmental protection across all company activities. This role requires a deep understanding of HSE regulations, risk management principles, and a proven ability to foster a strong safety culture in a distributed workforce. You will play a critical role in safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment while driving continuous improvement in HSE performance. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead HSE initiatives for a major energy player, contributing to sustainable and responsible operations globally, all from a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive HSE strategies, policies, and management systems.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable national and international HSE regulations and industry best practices.
• Oversee risk assessment processes, including hazard identification and control measures.
• Develop and manage incident investigation procedures, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Promote a strong HSE culture through effective communication, training, and engagement initiatives across all levels of the organization.
• Conduct HSE audits and performance reviews, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and manage emergency preparedness and response plans.
• Advise senior management on HSE performance, risks, and opportunities.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders on HSE matters.
• Manage and mentor the HSE team (if applicable) and foster collaboration across different departments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A Master's degree is advantageous.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental management, with significant experience in the Oil & Gas sector .
• In-depth knowledge of HSE legislation and standards relevant to the energy industry, particularly in South Africa and international contexts.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing HSE management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
• Strong risk management and incident investigation skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
• Ability to manage complex issues and drive change in a remote environment.
• Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, NEBOSH) are highly desirable.
• Proficiency in HSE management software and reporting tools.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively manage responsibilities from a remote location.
