Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support mining operations with remote data analysis and design of ground support systems for underground and open-pit mines. The role includes modeling to assess ground conditions and mitigating hazards, with periodic site visits to Bloemfontein and other sites.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in geotechnical or civil engineering, with 8+ years mining experience, and proficiency in FLAC, RocScience, and Slope/W to communicate

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with mining focus.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis and modeling software (FLAC, RocScience suite, Slope/W).

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and data analysis from site investigations and monitoring systems.
• Perform stability analyses for slopes, excavations, and underground openings using specialized software.
• Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems and dewatering strategies.
• Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs to assess risks and ensure stability.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and design documentation.
• Collaborate with mine planning, geology, and operations teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine design.
