Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to oversee geotechnical aspects of mining and infrastructure projects in the Richards Bay area. You will assess ground conditions, design slope stability measures, and mitigate geological hazards to ensure safe, compliant project delivery.

You will contribute to planning, execution, and monitoring, collaborating with geologists, engineers, and construction teams to uphold safety and technical excellence across major developments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a Geotechnics specialization.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant geotechnical experience in mining or heavy civil sectors.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as Slide, GeoStudio or Rocscience packages.
• Solid understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geological principles.
• Experience in field investigations, instrumentation, and monitoring.
• Strong report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, including site characterization and laboratory testing analysis.
• Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes, tailings dams, and other mine structures.
• Develop design recommendations for ground support, excavation, and dewatering systems.
• Monitor ground conditions and implement remediation measures for identified risks.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice to project teams, including geologists, engineers, and construction personnel.
• Ensure compliance with relevant geotechnical design codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
