About the Role

Our client, a growing airline operations company, is seeking an experienced Senior Flight Operations Officer to oversee and manage flight scheduling, crew rostering, and operational compliance from their Vereeniging base. This role is integral to ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the airline's fleet. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of aviation regulations, flight planning, and operational logistics. This hybrid position requires a blend of on-site presence for critical coordination and remote flexibility for detailed planning and analysis. You will be responsible for optimizing flight operations, managing resources effectively, and ensuring adherence to all safety and regulatory standards. This is a key role for an individual passionate about aviation operations and seeking to make a significant contribution.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage complex flight schedules and operational plans.
• Oversee crew rostering to ensure compliance with duty time limitations and operational requirements.
• Monitor flight operations in real-time, making necessary adjustments to ensure efficiency and safety.
• Ensure all flights comply with relevant aviation regulations (e.g., ICAO, local CAA requirements).
• Collaborate with maintenance, dispatch, and safety departments to coordinate operational activities.
• Manage operational communications with flight crews, ground staff, and external stakeholders.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for flight operations.
• Analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction.
• Handle irregular operations (IROPS) such as weather disruptions, technical delays, and emergencies.
• Train and mentor junior flight operations personnel.

Requirements

• Proven experience in flight operations, preferably in an airline environment.
• Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, flight planning software, and operational procedures.
• Experience with crew scheduling and rostering systems.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong decision-making capabilities and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with diverse teams.
• Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in dynamic situations.
• Proficiency in relevant aviation software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• A degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and public holidays.
