Placements24 is seeking a Senior Field Service Technician for remote-first support of advanced industrial systems across South Africa. You will diagnose, repair, and upgrade electro-mechanical equipment, often from a remote location, while coordinating with on-site teams when needed.

You will perform preventive maintenance, document all activities, and provide timely remote assistance to ensure minimal downtime and optimal system performance. Travel to client sites may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and software issues on advanced industrial systems remotely.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections to ensure system longevity and prevent unexpected failures.
• Install, configure, and commission new equipment and system upgrades, providing detailed documentation.
• Provide remote technical support and guidance to clients, ensuring rapid resolution of inquiries and issues.
• Conduct system performance analysis and recommend optimizations to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
• Collaborate with engineering and support teams to identify root causes of recurring problems and develop long‑term solutions.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive service records, including detailed reports on activities, findings, and resolutions.

• Develop and deliver technical training materials to clients and junior technicians as needed.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Field Service Technician or similar role, with a strong emphasis on complex electro‑mechanical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently, utilizing remote diagnostic tools.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical schematics, blueprints, and diagnostic software.
• Excellent understanding of industrial control systems, PLCs, HMI, and networking protocols.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Self‑motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively manage a remote workload.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative remote team.
• A relevant technical qualification or certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites for critical interventions or installations, if required.
