Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Employment Lawyer to join a remote-first legal team. You will provide expert counsel on SA employment law across the organization, covering recruitment, contracts, disciplinary processes, grievances, terminations, collective bargaining and litigation.

The role supports operations that may extend regionally within North West and beyond. The ideal candidate will have extensive employment law experience, strong advisory and negotiation skills, and

Qualifications

• Must be admitted as an attorney in SA with 8+ years of post-qualification experience in employment/labour law.
• Deep knowledge of South African labour legislation and case law.
• Experience advising on complex employment disputes and litigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert employment law advice, including drafting and interpreting contracts and policies.
• Manage disciplinary and grievance procedures with fairness and compliance.
• Represent the company in CCMA and Labour Court proceedings.
• Advise on retrenchment processes, restructurings and related implications.
• Develop and deliver training on employment law for HR and management.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and implement liability mitigation strategies.
• Stay updated on labour law changes and provide proactive updates.
• Assist with negotiations and agreements with trade unions.
• Oversee compliance with BCEA, LRA, EEA, SDA and related legislation.

This role is pivotal in providing expert legal counsel on all employment law matters across the organization, ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation and international best practices. You will be responsible for advising on recruitment, contracts, disciplinary procedures, grievances, terminations, collective bargaining, and employment litigation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in employment law, exceptional advisory skills, and the ability to manage complex employee relations issues proactively. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Excellent negotiation, advocacy, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage a demanding remote workload, and collaborate effectively with a distributed team.
• Strong drafting skills for employment-related documents and policies.
• Strategic thinking and proactive problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with multinational corporations is highly desirable.
