About the Role

Our client, a leading employer in the mining sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Employment Law Specialist to join their reputable legal team in Polokwane, Limpopo . This challenging role requires an in-depth understanding of South African labour law, employment equity, and related legislation. You will be responsible for providing expert legal advice on all employment-related matters, managing disciplinary processes, CCMA disputes, and ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements. The ideal candidate will possess strong advocacy skills and a proactive approach to employment relations, contributing to a fair and productive workplace for our client's diverse workforce in Polokwane .

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of employment law, including recruitment, employment contracts, termination, and employee benefits.
• Manage and conduct conciliation and arbitration proceedings at the CCMA and relevant bargaining councils.
• Draft, review, and update employment contracts, policies, and procedures.
• Advise on disciplinary investigations, hearings, and related legal processes.
• Ensure compliance with the Labour Relations Act, BCEA, EEA, and other relevant legislation.
• Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and strategies.
• Conduct legal training for HR personnel and line managers.
• Manage employment-related litigation and advise on legal risk mitigation.
• Represent the company in negotiations with labour unions and employee representatives.
• Stay current with developments in labour law and employment practices.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 7 years of experience specializing in employment law.
• In-depth knowledge of South African labour legislation, including the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and Employment Equity Act.
• Proven experience in handling CCMA disputes, arbitrations, and labour court litigation.
• Excellent negotiation, mediation, and advocacy skills.
• Strong drafting skills for employment contracts and policies.
• Ability to provide strategic advice to senior management and HR.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage a complex caseload.
• Experience within the mining or industrial sector is a significant advantage.
