Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a hybrid role based in Sandton, Gauteng. You will lead electrical design for commercial and industrial projects, coordinating with architects and mechanical engineers to deliver safe, compliant and efficient electrical systems.

Role requires a BEng in Electrical Engineering with at least 6 years of design experience, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP, and eligibility for Pr Eng or Pr C Eng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical engineering design for C&I projects.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, lighting, low-voltage systems and NEC/SANS standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and engineering for C&I projects including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm and LV systems.
• Develop schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts and specifications using CAD software.
• Manage project timelines, budgets and resources; oversee installation, testing and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers; collaborate with architects and other stakeholders.

This position involves managing the design and execution of electrical systems for a diverse range of clients, from large manufacturing facilities to commercial developments. You will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and safe electrical designs. Key Responsibilities

Lead the electrical design and engineering for Commercial & Industrial (C&I) projects, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, and low-voltage systems. Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and specifications using CAD software. Conduct site assessments and client consultations to define project requirements and scope. Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes, electrical regulations, and industry standards (e.g., SANS, NEC). .Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project delivery. Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning phases, providing technical guidance to site teams. Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and short circuit studies. Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated design solutions. Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and client presentations. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical engineering design, with a focus on C&I projects. Proven experience in designing power distribution systems, motor controls, lighting, and low-voltage systems for commercial and industrial applications. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar electrical design software. Strong knowledge of South African electrical standards and regulations. Experience with project management principles and practices. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model, balancing remote responsibilities with site visits. Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Candidate Engineer (Pr C Eng) with ECSA is highly advantageous. Experience with energy efficiency design and renewable energy integration in C&I settings is a plus.
