Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer for operations in Rustenburg. You will oversee the electrical design of large-scale industrial projects in mining and energy, guiding a team of engineers and technicians to deliver robust, compliant solutions.

You will manage schematics, numbers, and equipment specs while collaborating with project managers and multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring safety, efficiency, and high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years of electrical design engineering experience in industrial/mining sectors.
• Proven experience leading design teams on large projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and Revit MEP for electrical layouts.
• Strong knowledge of HV/MV systems, power distribution, protection.
• Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, DCS systems.
• Excellent understanding of SANS/IEC standards and safety practices.
• Leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Registration as Pr. Eng with ECSA is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process from concept to detailed design for major industrial projects.
• Develop and review schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring schedules and panel layouts.
• Ensure designs comply with national/international standards and codes.
• Mentor and manage a team of electrical engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with project managers and other disciplines for integrated designs.
• Specify equipment including switchgear, transformers, motors, panels, cabling.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering.
• Oversee BOQ preparation and technical specifications.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Stay updated on emerging design technologies and best practices.
