Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to head electrical design for large-scale industrial and mining projects in Rustenburg, North West, South Africa. The role emphasizes HV/MV systems, power distribution, control systems, safety, and mentoring a team of engineers and technicians.

You will collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, compliant designs, guiding from concept to detailed drawings and ensuring client

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in electrical design engineering, with mining/industrial exposure.
• Proven experience leading design teams and managing complex projects.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software and simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of high/medium-voltage systems, power distribution, and protection.
• Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, and DCS systems.
• Knowledge of South African and international standards (SANS, IEC).
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Practical ability to work in fast-paced, project-driven environments in Rustenburg.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for major industrial projects from concept to detailed design.
• Develop and review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring schedules, and panel layouts.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international standards and codes.
• Mentor a team of electrical design engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated designs.
• Specify electrical equipment including switchgear, transformers, motors, and cabling.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering studies.
• Prepare BoQ and technical specifications for procurement.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Stay updated on emerging electrical design technologies.
