Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa seeks a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to join the Durban team. You will lead design efforts in coastal industrial facilities, coordinating with client teams and other disciplines to shape scope and deliverables.

The ideal candidate holds a BSc Civil Engineering, 10 years’ experience (15+ preferred) and R egistration with ECSA. LPG/cryogenic project exposure and brownfield EPC knowledge are highly regarded.

• 10 years of engineering experience required; 15+ years preferred for seniority.
• Professional Registration with ECSA is required.

• Lead engineer on projects from feasibility to commissioning.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer with relevant design house experience to join our Civil & Structural Engineering team.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the job as summarised below, but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client and forming part of an owner’s team with the client
• Performing lead engineer role.
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the project process team
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.
• Execute projects within schedule and budget
• Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specifications
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Liaise with other engineering disciplines and gather information required for the structural designs
• Preparation of Design criteria and specifications
• The ability to interpret MFD’s and P&ID’s

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to work in a projects based environment covering all phases of project execution (feasibility, concept, basic, detail, construction support and commissioning).

The individual will engage in civil/ structural design activities related to producing and checking civil/ structural engineering deliverables.

The individual will be responsible for civil/ structural deliverables and quality/ technical quality assurance on the project.

Your profile

• The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc.Civil Engineering degree with 10 years engineering experience. 15+ years of experience is preferable.
• Experience in contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries is required.
• Lead Engineer Experience
• Professional Registration with ECSA is required.
• The candidate must have refrigerated LPG, cryogenic storage, terminal, marine, EPC and brownfields experience. Strong LPG experience is essential.
• Experience with relevant codes for LPG facilities.
• Direct experience with large tank foundations, settlement-sensitive structures or cryogenic tank civil works is strongly preferred.
• Experience in coastal industrial facilities and brownfield construction is preferred.
