Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa seeks an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to join the Civil and Structural Engineering Department in Cape Town. The role centers on delivering robust engineering solutions for energy and chemical projects, with a lead engineer guiding several small projects.

You will collaborate with clients, teams and vendors, review PFD/P&ID data, and manage manpower planning and scheduling for assigned workstreams.

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering with 4 years contracting experience in energy/chemicals.
• Preference for ECSA registration.
• Experience with brownfield projects.
• NEC knowledge is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineer on multiple small projects with client interaction.
• Deliver PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOP & SIL as required.
• Plan manpower and schedule for active projects.
• Perform on-site scoping and liaison with disciplines.
• Develop design criteria and civil/structural deliverables.
• Interpret MFDs and P&IDs; coordinate with clients and vendors.

Job description

Your responsibilities

We are looking for experienced Civil and Structural Engineers with relevant design house experience to join the Civil and Structural Engineering Department.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the following job description but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client to understand and deliver to Client’s expectations.
• Performing lead engineer role on various small projects.
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews.
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the projects where a lead engineer role is held.
• Perform scoping exercises on site
• Liaise with other engineering disciplines and gather information required for the structural designs
• Preparation of Design criteria and specifications
• The ability to interpret MFD’s and P&ID’s
• Liaise with clients and vendors to ensure alignment.
• Knowledge of design and sizing procedures and development of civil & structural engineering deliverables

Your profile

The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc./ B.Eng. Civil/ Structural Engineering degree with 4 years engineering experience in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries.

Professional Registration with ECSA is preferable.

A working knowledge of NEC would be an added advantage

Experience in brownfield project execution.
