Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa is seeking a Senior Piping Engineer with extensive design-house exposure to join the Piping & Layout Engineering Department in Johannesburg. The role emphasizes leading piping/layout deliverables, coordinating with clients, and managing consultants through all project phases.

The ideal candidate holds a BSc/BEng/BTech in Mechanical Engineering with 12–15 years in energy/chemical sectors and at least 8 years contracting experience, plus ECSA registration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent is required.
• 12–15 years of engineering experience with at least 8 years in contracting environments.
• Experience on energy and chemical/refining/petrochemical projects.
• Professional Registration with ECSA is required.
• Lead engineer experience on at least 3 large projects (basic and detail).

Responsibilities

• Lead piping/layout design and deliverables across project phases.
• Coordinate with clients as part of the owner's team and manage consultants.
• Plan manpower and project schedules for the process team.
• Prepare scopes of work and manage technical specifications.
• Contribute to PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, and constructability checks.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Piping Engineer with relevant design house experience to join the Piping & Layout Engineering Department.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the job as summarised below, but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client and forming part of an owner’s team with the client
• Performing lead engineer role.
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the project process team
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.
• Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specifications
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews
• Lead 3D model and constructability reviews
• Front end and detail Piping Design for Petrochemical, Refinery and Chemical Plants
• Stress analysis and flexibility calculations
• Design of pressure piping systems for: columns, drums, pumps, re-boilers, heat exchangers, air coolers, reactors, compressors, fired heaters, etc

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to work in a projects based environment covering all phases of project execution (feasibility, concept, basic, detail, construction support and commissioning).

The individual will engage in piping/ layout design activities related to producing and checking piping engineering deliverables.

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to function in a resource and/ or lead role on projects.

As a project piping/layout engineer, the individual will be responsible for piping/layout deliverables and quality on the project.

Your profile

The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc./ BEng./ B.Tech Mechanical Engineering degree with 12-15 years engineering experience of which 8 years should be in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries.

Lead Engineer Experience

Professional Registration with ECSA is required.

The successful candidate must have successfully performed in the position of lead engineer on at least 3 large projects in the basic and detail engineering phase.
